Introduction:
Headaches can occur for a number of reasons depending on the season. During the summer, the headache may be the cause of a sudden temperature change or an allergic reaction to certain types of pollen. The good news is you can take precautions to avoid summer headaches.

Be Careful of Sudden Temperature Changes:
Coming inside a cold, air conditioned room after being out in the extreme heat can cause a serious headache due to the sudden change in temperature. If you’re going to be outside for an extended period of time, try to cool off before coming inside. You might drink a bottle of water or stand in the shade for a few minutes. Anything you can do to reduce your body temperature before coming inside can greatly reduce the chances of a headache.

Eat and Drink Cold Foods Slowly:
Brain freeze is the result of a change in blood flow due to the cold temperature of the food or drink you’re consuming. The key to not getting brain freeze is to drink and eat slowly, while also pausing between bites or sips. This helps avoid a sudden rush of blood to the brain so that you enjoy your cool treat without the pain.

Use Allergen Filters:
Allergies can also be the cause of summer headaches. By installing an allergen filter in your home’s central heating and cooling system, you reduce the pollen and mold spores within your home. This makes it easier to breathe without having an allergic reaction to the stuff floating around in the air.

Avoid the Sun When on Certain Medications:
Summer invites people to go outside and enjoy the sunny weather. Unfortunately, the medication you’re on could cause you to become quite ill. An example, is the water pill HTCZ that is often prescribed for high blood pressure. Being in the sun while on the medication can lead to dehydration, which can cause headaches and dizziness. Be sure to check the warning labels on your medication before soaking up the sun’s rays.

Take an Allergy Pill:
Last, but not least, allergy pills can be a great help at preventing headaches caused by allergic reactions. Consult your doctor about which allergy medication would be best for you.

Summer headaches can ruin a good day. The good news is you don’t have to put up with them. There are a number of things you can do to prevent that horrible pain.
