Parents Beware; Lot Was A Disaster...

Abraham was a very effective leader who trained and mentored over 320 people that included his nephew, Lot. Here are a few examples of his sterling leadership qualities:

He went to war against four nations when Lot was kidnapped and with 318 ordinary men raised in his house, he won the battle in the most dramatic way! He was so sensitive, spiritually and physically, that he entertained angles (some say that God was amongst them) which led to his receiving the blessing of Isaac, his son of old age.

The way he trusted his servant to go and get a wife for Isaac and the result that followed is yet another demonstration of his outstanding leadership qualities. Finally, when he negotiated with God to spare Sodom and Gomorrah, he had his nephew and his household in mind...

Lot on the other hand was a poor learner and a poor leader:
The way he also entertained angels showed that he learnt a few things from his uncle, Abraham, but, here are a few examples of how he messed things up:

1) knowing how important his uncle's grace covered him, he should have refused to be separated from his uncle. When Naomi begged Ruth to separate, she refused (Ruth 1:8).

2) after separating, Lot spent more time at the city gate with ungodly men than with God.

3) instead of influencing his environment like Abraham did, he allowed his environment to influence him. When Abraham negotiated with God on the number of righteous men God should find and spare the city, Abraham must have believed that Lot would have evangelised to a few people besides his household. He didn't.

4) his wife disobeyed his instruction, looked back and turned into a pillar of salt. I cannot believe that it was her first time of disobeying him!

5) he couldn't even win over his son in-laws to believe what he believed. Noah did!

6) what kind of father was so terribly uninfluential that his daughters (two of them) ended up raping him and what kind of sleep was he under? Didn't the bible say that we should train up a child in the way he or she should go and when he or she grows up, he or she will not depart from it?

Parents, especially mothers, make up your mind to be fully in charge of your homes and your environments this 2018. It starts with spiritual discipline. Emulate Abraham if you must not end up like Lot. Lot, indeed, was a disaster!
