I don't think is Gender thing, but as a result of being less busy.
That is to say: the more expressive and less busy any person is , more the chances of gossiping.

Being in a place of work don't  necessary they're  doing anything there or working all the time, she could be in a working place yet doing nothing, thus room for gossip is created.
