President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Justice Ejembi Eko and Justice Amina A. Augie for the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC).

Two justices will be sworn in by Mahmud Mohammed, the incumbent Chief Justice of Nigeria and chairman of the National Judicial Council on November 7, at 2pm in the Supreme Court of Nigeria.Their appointment was confirmed by 38 senators of the Nigerian Senate on October 18. The news were made public by a statement issued by Soji Oye, the acting director of information for the NJC.

President Buhari had on October 11 requested the Senate to consider and confirm the nominations of two judges as Justices of the Supreme Court.
The nominated judges were Sidi Bage of Nasarawa state — north central; and Paul Jauro of Taraba state — north east.

Meanwhile, the NJC has suspended seven senior judges arrested in October by the State Security Service for alleged corruption.
