I see negatives things and stories about Africa commonly in foreign media, I wonder where these guys are getting their facts, is this not the same Africa I'm right now. My question is: why is it Africa is poorly represented in media?

I don't know why is poorly represented, what I know is that those journalists, are writing what that will attract readers, you know positives stories won't tell much. This is just how human nature operates.

I think is started as back as colonial era. You should know that media in general are driven by negative news and activities, otherwise they will be out of business.
For example if a man comes out and start telling people how he loves, cares, kisses, looks and appreciates his wife. The question that will pop up in people's mind is "And so what?"  But if news read that I certain man beat, abused, molested his wife, and stab his neighbor this becomes head line and people will buy or listen attentively.

Another thing  I observe is that media people are in business to make money not necessary to serve the society as they claim.

Because I Africa don't care and other people do. But to be honest, sometimes I wonder what runs in some folks mind by pushing wrong information as though is true . From the founding of America to the abolition of slavery in the 1860s the majority of slaves were white. Well, as someone rightly pointed out, sad news sells than good news. May be Africa is found attractive for such. But is good that people define who they are, not someone else, as this will diminish  the wrong attractiveness or perception of the people.

Is also important to read about Africa in Africans media like Cokoye here not foreign media, as Cokoye is like Africa telling their stories not some external bodies that might not know the continent.

Is important to use common sense to evaluate what one reads, only give attention to news only if is important to what one wants or needs.

Africans need more awareness on the social media. They usually lack adequate information research to authenticate info mation thereby making themselves dormant media wise. As they rely more on foreign media report.

Afrikaetal, I agree with you to an extend, in terms of social media, judging by my observation there is no real threat there, but in area of  Africans relying more on foreign media report this is where many Africans home and abroad got it wrong. I have seen many folks here in Africa ignore their local televisions and radio stations and searching their local information/news in foreign media. Could this be as a result of lack of trust or what?

I actually knew about most of this, but having said that, I still thought it was useful. Nice job!

Sameenajee1, there is nothing wrong promoting your signature, is part of forum marketing. But you have to write something meaningful or inline with topic under discussion. You can agree, disagree and make your point.
Thank you for your understanding.
