FIGHTING AND CONQUERING TEMPTATIONS.
Not everybody that fights a temptation eventually conquers that temptation. Many people have battled and struggled with various formS of temptations for years without overcoming them.
Whenever the temptations come they always fall for it. They have even started believing that it is impossible to overcome such temptation.
How I wish you will understand that temptations are not to punish you, but to promote you. Every time you are tempted, it is just an indication that a major promotion is on the way, it means you are about to be lifted up, but you must overcome that temptation first so as to enter the next level.
Even Jesus Christ before He was empowered, he was tempted three times in Luke chapter 4 vs. 3 to 13.
The exam of life is the exam of temptations. It is this test that produces your testimony; it is the trial that brings about your desired triumph. The problem is not the temptation but it is in falling for the temptation.
I know that there are some temptations you always fall for, the temptation of anger, the temptation of lust that may lead to fornication/ adultery or masturbation, the temptation to lie your way out as a form of escape, the temptation to forge figures in the office that are not true, the temptation to take what does not belong to you, the temptation to gossip and backbite, the temptation of pride, all to mention but a few.
Temptations will always come; the only place that temptation cannot reach is the cemetery. If life will always pose temptations then you must learn how to deal with temptation, you must learn how to fight it and always overcome.
HOW TO OVERCOME TEMPTATIONS
I will give you a general solution then I will break them down into specifics.
1st Corinthians 10 vs. 13
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
From the above scripture there are two key perspectives you must apply to overcome any form of temptation so that you can step into a higher level in all things.
1. Believe that that temptation is common to man: you must see the temptation as common; it is not new so it should not be news to you. It is common; you are not the first to be tempted in that manner. You must not see it as special, see it as a common thing. That is instead of magnifying it, commonise it.
2. There is a way out of every temptation that enables you to be victorious, but many people instead of looking for the way out give up and fall for the temptation. But from today this shall not be your portion, with the help of the ever faithful and dependable God, you will overcome any form of temptation that cares to stare you in the face.
Ways of escape in conquering these temptations.
a. Lust; lust is either of the eyes or of the flesh. Lust is the source of fornication and adultery. Lust is like a seed that bears fruit in no time. when David in 2 Samuel chapter 11 vs. 1-5 saw Bathsheba having her bath, lust crept in, he kept on looking at the woman and that lust began to bear fruit until it resulted in his committing adultery with her even when she was another man’s wife. Lust have no respect for anointing, there are some pictures you must not look at, there are some films you must not watch, don’t think you are strong, you are not, in fighting lust you have to discipline your mind and eyes because it has succeeded in destroying great men. Take heed, there are lustful thoughts stored up in your mind that you have to prayerfully cast out now before it leads you to do what you never wanted to do. When lust is completed it always result in sin, so guard your heart with all diligence, Proverbs 4 vs. 23 guard your heart the way you guard your eyes, that is where your life is. I see God helping you to overcome lust. If you mistakenly see something that brings lust to your mind, please do not look at it again. Every sexual sin is traceable to lust, so please beware.
b. Lies; You cannot overcome the habit of lies until you overcome FEAR. Most lies you tell is traceable to an unseen fear. Lie does not make you free; it is the truth that sets you free. Lies may offer you temporary freedom but will keep you under bondage as you will keep lying and lying to cover up lies. Why are you afraid of a common man? May be your boss in the office that you now have to lie, sinning against God. Say the truth and God that has every mans heart in his hand will defend you. There are still people that have no reason to lie, they are not afraid of anything but find themselves lying like the devil, this is because the lying spirit is controlling them, lay your hand on the screen this moment. I cast out that lying spirit from your life right now in the name of Jesus Christ. You are free. Be quick to tell the truth at all times notwithstanding the pressures.
c. Gossips; some people just enjoy talking about other peoples down falls or short comings; it has become a habit to many to be excited when their friend is not doing well. Anything you are saying to someone about some other person that you cant say in that person front please don’t say it. Let your mouth be seasoned with the right words at all times, bless, bless, bless, do not gossip, do not backbite. I release grace to overcome this temptation to gossip in the name of Jesus
d. Envy: when your friend is making progress and you are not, try to rejoice with him or her because your own is around the corner, don’t envy him, if your neighbor buys a car and you don’t have one, don’t get envious but visit him and even give him money to buy fuel.
e. Anger: This is the most common form of temptation we face everyday, you might be so happy this minute and the next you are raging in anger because somebody annoyed you, nobody is strong enough to take away your joy. You can deal with that anger by focusing at the issue at hand not on the person. Be angry and sin not, do not let the sun go down upon your anger Ephesians 4 vs. 26 to 27, since the sun can go down any minute without taking permission from anybody, try not to be angry with any person, you may be angry with what the person did or said but remove that person from the picture, focus on the issue, let the person know that what he or she did was not right. Even if the person acts adamant if the issue was treated that person will have a rethink after some time. Instead of insulting the person insult the issue.
f. Pride: pride in any form or magnitude goes before a fall. To deal with pride you need to consciously humble your self. The only thing that pride respects is humility. Even if you have every reason to be proud, this is why you must humble yourself the more. God resists the proud but gives more grace to the humble. James 4 vs. 6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
1st peter 5 vs. 6

When you start thinking that its your strength, power, education that has taken you to where you are today, pride has started entering your heart. You are what you are by the grace of God.
If you will consciously put these little things to work you will discover that you will not only conquer temptations as they come but you will attract Gods blessings on a daily basis. You are blessed in the name of Jesus. See you at the top.
