Africa and The Diaspora, Why The Disconnect?

Before the turn of the century, there was a strong bond between Africans in the diaspora and at home, these days while Africans still embrace their brothers in America, there seems to be a disconnect as African-Americans tend to look down on Africans. What are your thoughts on this does this disconnect really exist?
