Well, you're one of exceptions; there is this India man that wants to be in world Guinness book of record for wearing most expensive gold in the world.
With his tenacity he will likely enter the record soon.

His name is Phuge, Popularly known as the ‘goldman’ in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Known for his penchant for gold, he self admittedly wears gold ornaments weighing 7 kg in his daily life.

Recent news about him is that he was spotted wearing a shirt made up of 22-carat pure gold which is worth a whopping Rs1.27crore. The shirt weighing 3.5 kg includes a belt of 325 grams.

Despite the bling, Phuge said that he doesn’t fear for his security. “I have been wearing a heap of gold since many years. I am always surrounded by my trusted boys and no one can dare to harm me,”

Phuge is the man at the right hand.
As of this writing, there is no yet any person that wears expensive gold regularly than him in any part of the world I know (at least not published anywhere)
When it comes to gold Indians are at the top, even though India isn't richest country of the world.
I'm not suggesting that wearing gold is important or not, that I respect gold or not, but concern what is connection between India and gold?

I see what you wrote as a reason, they're likely be other reasons Indians like/love gold. As an India girl, you can ask your grandmother or Dad/mum this question he is likely to tell you interesting things and stories why Indians love gold then share it with us in this thread.
