– Leicester City are the first English club to record three straight victories in the UEFA Champions League

– The Foxes overcame FC Copenhagen 1 – 0 in their third Group G match at the King Power Stadium

– Riyad Mahrez scored the winner for Claudio Ranieri’s record-breaking side to remain to of the Group

Leicester City became the only English club to ever win their first three matches in the Champions League after defeating FC Copenhagan 1 – 0.

The Foxes now only need a draw to reach the knock out phase when they meet the Danish side in the reverse fixture on November 2.

Leicester City players celebrate Riyad Mahrez goal against FC Copenhagen

Claudio Ranieri has praised his record-breaking side as they powered towards a place in the Champions League’s last 16.

Ranieri said: “We are the record team! We are in a good position, our destiny is in our hands and we want to continue in this way.

“It’s good to go in the Europa League [Leicester now look assured to finish third at worst in the group], at least.

“Now we have to go into the next round of the Champions League and we will go step by step.”

The Italian coach also hailed Mahrez who scored the winner and his third goal in the competition as he also justified his decision to rest the Algerian in the league defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

“For this reason I put him on the bench against Chelsea,” said the Foxes boss. “Now it’s right, eh?”

Despite recording poor strings of results in the Premier League, the Foxes are enjoying their Champions League campaign as they top in Group G with nine points with FC Copenhagen and FC Porto trailing in second place with four points.
