What is going on here, I think, is the tension of Epic being terrified of Fortnite ever feeling like it's growing stale, therefore they feel pressured to present new, meta-shaking things such as mythic weapons, even though no one was requesting them.

And yet that poses a risk for the playerbase, as players are constantly on the lookout to get a"jump the shark" moment in which Fortnite ruins what a good thing they had going by making unnecessary changes. Many are saying that this really is that instant.

I believe the most jarring part of this is how much this feels like when Thanos was introduced in Fortnite, therefore something which feels almost as strong (if not more so) being at the main match instead of an LTM seems bizarre. Mythic weapons' concept feels as though it's perfectly created for an LTM. I could readily imagine a mode with a bunch of mythic weapons being lots of fun that is chaotic.

However, it does feel like it destroys the"purity" of conventional Fortnite in a manner that most new additions don't. A brand new shotgun or AR or approach might change the metagame, but it will not be completely broken by it. And X thing is usually nerfed and brought in line, should it. But mythic firearms are another category entirely, and so far nearly everybody is pushing back against their inclusion in the main modes of the game.
