PRESS STATEMENT
FROM THE OFFICE OF THE HOUSE MAJORITY LEADER,
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
DECEMBER 21, 2020.

THERE'S NO IMPEACHMENT PROCESS AGAINST PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
SAYS HOUSE MAJORITY LEADER, ALHASSAN ADO DOGUWA........

My attention has been drawn to an unholy, unbecoming, and unhallowed unparliamentary conduct, utterances and mischievous rumours being spread by Hon. Kingsley Chinda (PDP rivers state) concerning an alleged impeachment process against the President and Commander-In-Chief Of The Federal Republic Of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. There is no such impeachment process.
I wish to declare that Hon. Chinda's unacceptable actions smacks of disdain, disrespect and desecration of the time-honoured legislative practice amounting to a flagrant abuse of our individual and collective privileges as members of the House Of Representatives. What makes it more worrisome is that no such matter has been raised or discussed at any plenary or at any point in time in the life of this 9th assembly.

Relying on our official records, I make bold to say that Hon. Kingsley Chinda used to be the leader of the PDP caucus in the green chamber but he has since ceased to be the leader of the PDP caucus in the House Of Representatives and therefore cannot claim to speak on behalf of the PDP caucus whatsover. His actions are regrettable, despicable and capable of jeopadising the current good working relationship with the executive arm of government.
On behalf of my teeming colleagues, I wish to use this medium to also notify Nigerians that while the leadership and membership of the House Of Representatives had worked assiduously to maintain a harmonious executive-legislative relationship for the collective benefit of all Nigerians, it was Hon. Chinda's singular action that truncated Mr.  President's initial acceptance to honour our invitation to the house.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  As a leadership, we cannot fold our arms and watch a member undermining our institutional authority by spreading unfounded rumours. In the same vein, we cannot as a house, and even in our respective caucuses, we have never contemplate any impeachment process against the President. There is nothing in the horizon that points in this direction.
As leader of the house, I wish to seize the opportunity of this medium to notify that the house would be compelled to initiate and take legislative, legitimate and appropriate displinary actions against HON. Kingsley chinda to serve as a deterrent to others.
Let me, at this juncture, commend and congratulate Mr. President for taking immediate and appropriate actions to rescue the over 300 abducted boys of kankara, Katsina State, In fulfillment of the commitment of his administration towards protecting lives and property of the Nigerian people.
In the same vein, I wish to commend the government and people of Katsina State particularly governor Aminu Bello Masari. While also applauding the supreme sacrifice and commitment of our military, security and intelligence forces in tackling banditry, kidnapping and insurgency in the country, I urge them to redouble their efforts and do more than they are doing now to meet the popular expectations of all Nigerians.
May god bless the federal republic of Nigeria!

SIGNED:
RT. HON.  ALHASSAN ADO DOGUWA
MAJORITY LEADER, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA
