Being on the waiting list is tough, and you need the right set of keys to open the door to your dream program. The truth is that even with these keys, is still not guaranteed that the lock will work. However, this keychain has the critical pieces of metal you need to turn that lock.
First, a word of introduction: Realize that receiving a wait-list letter means that the requirements for admission. It happens. You are probably on the waiting list (not admitted) because they have already admitted applicants with your profile and no diversity in the classroom. Or search your impressive qualifications, but find someone else even more.
Now let's examine the key.
Key 1: Read the letter of any signs of deficiency in your profile and try to improve that element in your profile.
Clue 2: Give them more reasons to support it. If the school encouraged contact, inform it of new achievements, initiatives, promotions, and events in your life. This proposal involves the development of a proactive campaign for contact roughly every 2-3 weeks. The exact data can vary depending on your school, specialty, and exactly when placed in the waiting list, but can include letters, visit (s) in addition to the school, an offer to interview, letters of support from others, and occasional phone calls.
Letters should be 1-2 pages. For suggestions on the content of the letters, please see "Purgatory waiting list. "
Key 3: Reinforce the idea of ??a fit between you and the school. Demonstrate how a visit confirmed and deepened his interest in the program. Show how the recent activities reveal that the values ??and school are a match made in heaven.
Clue 4: Ask your fan club. Find additional letters of recommendation from supervisors within and outside of work and teachers (if applied to an academic program.) Current students and recent graduates that you know you can also write letters of support and emphasize your fit with the program.
Key 5: Ask if there is anything you can do to improve your candidacy. Usually not, but if not you want to know about it and do it. If you have already shown an improvement in that aspect of your profile, you know how they have improved since you asked.
It is much harder to wave the flag when the school does not want contact. But even in these cases, you can be proactive, just more indirect. If possible, visit the school and tour. If you know alumni or faculty, ask them to put in a good word for you at school. We can not be responsible if your fan club believed to belong to X school and wants to inform the admissions committee. Have to be a bit more indirect, but you still want someone to show fit and that "new and improved."
