Many people buy a computer, only to discover it does not really fit anywhere. They can be big things, in a clumsy, with a complete set of cables and equipment all need a place to stand.

The solution is to get a computer desk. They do not cost much, and are specially designed to hold all the peripherals of a computer needs. There is room for the monitor, speakers and mouse on the top shelf for the keyboard and then the bottom compartment of the box of the system itself, and even to a printer or scanner. A good computer desk also have holes and the paths of all the different cables that are needed to tie it all together and make it work. All you need is a comfortable office chair, and go.

With the rise of wireless networks, you can have computer desks in places that otherwise would not have thought, if you have a useful outlet. All you need do is add a wireless card to the computer and connect to a router, and then you can use the Internet without having to run network cables all over the place. This works especially well in offices, where much of the computer can be networked, or worse, networked to a printer or server.

In larger computing environments, it is possible to obtain large desktop computer that was created for multiple computers, making it easier for a team to work together on them. Some even come with embedded computer desks, which means that parts of computer work can be hidden much better, a bit like a kitchen with integrated appliances. However, the downside of too much integration between computers and desks is that teams can make much more difficult to repair if they happen to break.
