                                                                STUDYING ABROAD
The four walls of a classroom have overtime turned the pillars of our civilization. Education and schools have helped prevented a World WarIII, more than the UN does. A parent whose kid is not comfortable with a pen should be writing his will. Our modern society has been built around a school- as a beautiful degree can beautifully change your degree in the society.
In such a competitive world like ours, we need some 'academic evolution', some professional ammunition in terms of skills and certificates to keep attractive occupationally; else we go socially obsolete. But then with the current academic climate of Nigeria, we could doubt if the basic naija graduate can rub intellectual shoulders with a European high school student.
It thus poses a benefit to study abroad. A handsome degree in a renowned western school is such adorning 'professional cosmetics' that makes you so goodlooking and attractive in the Nigerian job market. Surely an Oxford diploma makes your occupational prospects as promising as Obama's kids'. It is estimated that Nigeria loses N1.5trn to overseas education annually. This could be true due to the fact that most of our public universities are almost 'academic museums' where educational antiquities are kept; our engineering labs are just technological silhouettes of their western contemporaries. Surely you would know how rickety your Nigerian CV is when you go for an interview alongside a Nottingham graduate. Moreover, studying abroad provides you with 'Spiderman' friends that can web (link) you to your dreams- introducing you to international exposure!
Then how can we get abroad- to greener academic pastures? "Two things you can get from study abroad institutions- a probable study abroad opportunity and a sure bankruptcy" a friend once told me. It is generally believed that studying abroad requires more of a big purse than a big brain. That you must sit in the elite class in the society before you get your Nigerian wards sitting in a Canadian class studying! This is not necessarily true as there are study abroad opportunities that can help you travel abroad studying without having to strictly travel out of your comfort financially. You can get to be an international student and experience foreign education without having to first experience 'purse kwashiorkor' (consequent inadequacy). We have a good number of study abroad institutions that are more bent on getting you a foreign program education than getting your money. Some support preparations for international exams like TOEFL, SAT, GMAT etc. Even some provide you with an extra tongue- helping you learn the language of your prospective destination. All at a generous fee you wouldn't need to lose pounds of weight getting!
There is fat list of international universities offering scholarships to African students as they believe academic aids are more effective than IMF aids. Oxford, Nottingham, Chevening among other universities annually offers developing countries the golden opportunity to be enlisted into their intellectual force. Even indigenous organizations provide students studying abroad opportunities, gaining million dollar of capacity without spending a kobo; through scholarship (even postgraduate scholarships). There are usual updates also for available slots to get slotted into decorated international colleges- just keep your ears to the ground and get elevated from the sands!
In all this, I hope you find study abroad opportunities with which you can learn abroad- chances for BLACKS to get WHITE collar education without having to pay your financial peace!
THANKS.
