I'm in grade 9, and I have to write an essay on the environmental issues in Alberta. My teacher said that the intro should be 3-5 sentences, and then the 3 body paragraphs should be 7-10 sentences. However I only have 45 minutes to write the custom essay, and when I wrote it just now it came out to be 720 words. How will I write this much in 45 minutes? Was my teacher incorrect about how many sentences it should be? Should I cut it down or is this fine? Btw, single spaced size 12 font is only one and a half pages typed.

To determine how long a five-paragraph essay is, you must first understand the definition of a "paragraph." A paragraph is a collection of sentences (or, in some cases, only one sentence) covering a complete topic or sub-topic, or at least sticking to similar ideas more or less. A paragraph can be very, very long, or it can be quite short. When writing an essay, you may be required to write a certain number of words as the important measure. Your teacher may suggest you break up the text into five paragraphs. Either way, the word length will probably be the most important measure in an essay. The body of this answer is 264 words long, and the entire answer including the address, signature, and caption is 283 words long.
