THERE WILL BE JUSTICE FOR INIUBONG - HE Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel

The wife of the Governor, Akwa Ibom State, Dr Martha Udom Emmanuel has reiterated the position of the Government of Akwa Ibom to prosecute all pepetrators and accomplices in the rape and murder of Iniobong Umoren, and has assured that justice will be served.

Dr Martha Emmanuel said this, today, Wednesday in Uyo while addressing women and youths who took to the street in a coordinated walk to protest the increasing spate of rape and defilement, with the most prominent in recent times being the rape and murder of one miss Iniubong Umoren.

The Governor's wife also led the women in prayer to God to visit justice on pepatrators of gender based violence and peadophiles in Akwa Ibom, praying that the good Lord should fight for defenceless women, and to expose the perpetrators and their craft.

She also used the opportunity to commend the efforts of the Government of Akwa Ibom State and the Police Force for their prompt response in the case.

She also advised youths in Akwa Ibom to be vigilant and investigate every job claim that is posted online and not be carried away by sweet promises and unconfirmed pay bonuses.

She admonished that unemployment should not drive the youths to desperate offers.

Earlier in her statement, the Commissioner  Women Affairs, Dr. Ini Adiakpan decried the incessant abuses meted out on females both old and young.

She used the opportunity to charge women to unite together to fight a common cause, urging the women to support each other, especially people who have suffered gender based violence.

Speaking also, the Chairperson of FIDA Barr Emem Ette seized the opportunity to restate the resolve of FIDA to continually defend women. She noted that a lot has to be done to reorientate the male folks on their  duties and roles as defenders of women and not abusers.

Other solidarity speeches were rendered by different personalities including the Chairperson of National Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Mrs Uduak Ekong and Chairperson of Community Partners for Development, Mrs Nsekpong Udoh.
