COMMERCIAL MILK PRODUCTION BOOST FOR NIGERIA'S CATTLE HERDERS!

With remarkable successes already recorded in the determination of the Buhari administration to diversify Nigeria's economy, do you know that the administration has gone a step further by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with a foreign dairy production company, FrieslandCampina WAMCO to strengthen the country's milk value chain and maximize the business/profit margins of milk production for our cattle herders?

This development was made known to the public on Sunday, August 22, 2021 by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, which said the deal involves helping the smallholder dairy farmers or cattle herders across the country to boost production, improve the quality of locally produced milk, and then increase both the network and net worth of milk suppliers in the country.

Giving further details, the ministry said the Buhari administration and the company have agreed to transform the largely nomadic cattle herders to sedentary dairy farmers by providing the required infrastructure and training in the Dairy Value Chain, and that crossbreeding centres will be set up to produce high quality cattle for that purpose.

While being an excellent step in settling cattle herders in specific spots to halt nomadism, this venture will certainly boost the quality and market share of our locally produced milk, and will also create thousands of employable labour and investment opportunities in the livestock value chain.
