Have you noticed smoothie and juice bars are growing in popularity? There is a good reason for this. They are becoming a more mainstream approach to a healthy diet. But what is the difference between smoothies and juices? Is one better than the other?
Here is a comparison, to you decide what is best for you.
Smoothies are made with the fiber intact helping you to feel fuller. They require less time to make and most people already have the equipment....a blender.
Juicing on the other hand separates the fiber from the nutrients. This allows your body to absorb nutrients easier with less work on your body plus you can pack a tremendous amount of nutrients in a glass of fresh juice. It is difficult to pack as many nutrients in a smoothie because the fiber is bulky and takes more space.
There are many reasons beyond the great taste of Juice. If you ever had fresh vegetable or fruit juice, I'm sure you noticed how much more flavor it has than the standard bottled juices. The reason is bottled juice has been pasteurized.
Pasteurized fruit and vegetable juices are heated to protect the foods against bacteria and other harmful organisms. In this process the enzymes and other beneficial nutrients are destroyed.
Whether you prefer smoothies or juices it is very important to add green leafy vegetables to them. Since eating leafy green vegetables have so many health benefits you can see why they are becoming more popular.
