The Effects of Last Ebola Outbreak in Nigeria On Airline Operation

Last Ebola virus out break in Nigeria on Nigeria’s airline operation lead to all manner of unpleasant experiences to airline operators as virtually all airline operators operations are effected by Ebola virus out break brought in by America Liberia citizen.

Airline operation in Nigeria witnessed a series of unplanned and unexpected problems from regulation to loosing of patronage by the populace etc.
All air line operators spend a lot of resources in putting measures in place to educate passengers, to warn them about dangers or to prevent ebola patient from entering flight, all these lead to high cost of operation.  While Air line operators believe they have done enough to be on top of the situation regulatory bodies and observers belief that more need to be done as they argue that life is better than the money/resources being spent.

Many airline operators were suspended by NCAA (Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority) in an attempt to prevent spread of the virus. Example is Asky airline. Thus leading to lost of business by the operator.

Having indicated these, generally speaking, below are main effects of last Ebola out break in Nigeria on airline operation

Waste of Resources:
Nigeria airline operators were forced by the Ebola virus outbreak to spend on so many preventive measures in order to protect the passengers, members of staffs, populace from contracting the virus and also to demonstrate to the masses and regulatory bodies their seriousness to contain the situation.

High cost of operation:
As a matter of necessity, more and more measures are put in place both the measures initiated by the operators and ones forced by the regulatory bodies like NCAA, all these have bearing effect on cost of operation of the airline as a result there was high cost of operation which did reflect on the button line of airline operations.

Lost of patronage:
Many Nigerians stopped boarding flight and some reduced their level of patronizing airline as they are skeptical about the safety put in place by the operators.  In short because of the fact that first Ebola case in Nigeria started by an airline passenger so many Nigerians unconsciously attached the feeling that flight is a source of Ebola and any body can contract while in flight any time.  The implication of this to operators is lost of patronage thus effecting the airline operation.

Danger of life of members of airline staffs:
Another effect of last Ebola virus out break in Nigeria’s airline operation is danger of life of members of airline staffs as airline staffs are often first contact of passengers arriving or boarding flights. As many airline operators are spending on preventive measures so are their respective staffs involve in so many personal spending in order to prevent themselves from the virus. Yet that does not rule out the fact that their lives are in danger.

Distraction from main airline operation objective:
Every business is set out to achieve a given objective is established for, unfortunately to airline operators in Nigeria during last Ebola out break were distracted from the main objective of serving customers and making profit to mapping out strategies and measures to save lives and convincing regulatory bodies of their preventive actions.  Thus, were distracted from the airline main objectives.

Above is to serve as reality not totality of what airline operators passed through during last out break of Ebola virus in Nigeria
