More and more people are enjoying ballroom dancing as they recognize both the physical and mental health benefits of this activity. Dancing provides a myriad of physical health benefits. The constant movement improves muscle tone in the legs, buttocks, upper body, and abdomen. Overall physical conditioning also improves as the cardiovascular system strengthens and overall stamina increases. This often results in lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
This activity has also been shown to improve mental health and reduced the chance of dementia in patients. It has long been recognized that because dancing requires the participants to learn and remember steps, this increases the brain chemicals that grow nerve cells, resulting in better memory skills.
Dancing is a social activity that can give you a great mind-body workout.  Whatever you decide whether it's ballroom dancing, jazz, ballet or the latest popular dance moves, be sure to pick one you really enjoy. If it is something you relish and look forward to, you will be less likely to drop out. Dancing is a great way for all ages to get and stay in shape.
