Effective business networking is the union of like minded individuals who, through relationship building, become walking, talking advertisements for one another.

Note that the networks are trying to be in good faith, trust, and see how your relationship can really help others.
1. Always find out before you even enter a room, what are your specific goals are in attending each networking session. This helps you choose the groups or associations that will help you get what you are looking for.

2. Ask open-ended questions during conversations on your network, ask the questions who, what, where, when and how. Try to avoid questions that require a simple yes or no. By using this type of questions that we can lead the discussion and show listeners that you are interested.

3. Becoming a resource center for walking. When a resource is known as strong, others remember to turn to you for suggestions, ideas, names of other people, etc. This keeps you on your "top of mind".

4. Make sure you have your "elevator speech" prepared and know like the palm of your hand. An elevator speech is commonly known as the answer I would give the amount of time it would take to reach the tenth floor in an elevator. Always rehearse your spiel and be genuine, so it does not sound automated when relaying to someone who asks what to do.

5. He always knows what is going on now, if you do not feel comfortable just shooting in a lecture the first time you meet someone, have a backup issue to break the ice to do so.

6. Never just throw your business card at the time that someone you meet them, you have to know the person and their business as well as explaining your business, even before considering the exchange of business cards. Some people find that rude, pushy and unprofessional which in turn reflect badly on your business.

7. Always phone or email your new contacts and let them know that you enjoyed your performance. If things can be mentioned that discussed in a more personal (ie, I hope you enjoyed that movie is going to be that night.) People will come to you as someone who listens, remembers them and they will form a trust with you.

8. The most important thing to remember is to follow through quickly and efficiently on referrals you are given. When people give you referrals, your actions are a reflection of them. Respect and honor your trust and your referrals to grow exponentially.
