LAGOS POEM: I AM A LAGOSIAN

I am not a Lagosian
But I could be a lago de curamo
I repeat
I’m not a lagosian by right
But I could be
By birth at isale eko
By my marriage
By my sons birth at Ijesha express and badagry
By my secondary school education
Or
   By contributing to
The educational well being
Of your sons and daughters
   In LASU externals for six years
With unequal pay packets
   Or in LASPOTECH
Where I graduated your
   Sons and daughters for ten years
With my names
   In your permanent staff list
At Ikorodu
Where lord korah-olorioko
Paid us two hundred and forty naira
   Per week for eight straight years
And I’m I not a lagosian
   If I did all these and more
By meeting your deadlines
For results, making guides and typed questions
   And you never met mine
By waging me enough
   To complete my pipe-dream
Of having a university of Lagos
   Pos graduate degrees.
