NIGERIA POEM: BALASHIGASPER SQUARE

They brought
   Us into Balash
Often times at Abeokuta
Printing press
Mark timing our entry
   Till tides came
When miss Ajasa
Prodded me in Balash’ den
Widespread bears on the table
Okunnu, Olateju in council
We all became Balash boys
Till tides dried into riverbeds
And barry lao
That same barry Loa
Took me bondage
Feeding me with fifty naira lunch shows
Making sure my scafford is inset
Until almighty paved way
Then his ejection e-mailed
Us downstream
To become trainee prof.
Squatting on Adeniji laptop
Programmed soft wares
I learnt
   Not to execute
Except on Ize we laid low
But my penury increased
Joseph fled to Egypt
Lao became pharoahnic
That made Joseph unpopular
Kicking to shreds his seventh year hungers

Suppressed but not
   Deflated
Joseph remained
   Until tides came when
Pharohship did exchange handshakes
The new pharaoh-loid is our man jenrola
Took us astride river ikosi-cum-isolo part-time
While daylight met usat
Desert-ikoosi-surulere-oregun-ojo
Wolex-ketu cris-crossed campuses
All thatended on Gasper’s square
Who pined the coins
On ninety banking day a-piece
Thinking A.S.U.P will swallow
Typified carrots
Being droppings
From books of life agent ship
   Then comes days of awards
Who made teargas
The deathorseman of Chuba Okadigbo
Whether we win or loose
We live or die a hungered
Whatever we did
   Or didn’t do
While we all dealt cards at LASPOTECH
Will soon give stillbirths
To memories of our sunset days
After Balashigasper square runneth over.
