I was just reading a few  newpapers.
I browsed through the "African" section I noticed how morbid and depressing our continent has become. Granted there are some uplifting stories but they are few and far between.
There seem to be more problems than solutions.
If it's not Somalian warlords and a need for peacekeepers,
its an article on how corrupt Nigerian police are, or the raping of 200 women in congo.

Why are we still poverty stricken as a continent? Why are we still a developing continent with all our abundant resources.
Where did we go wrong?
Who are our visionary leaders?
If they don't exist, what are we doing to develop visionary leaders.
How do we hold our leaders accountable.

Lets be part of the solution!

Kayte, welcome to cokoye.com, this is interesting questions you asked above.
I think these challenges African's continent is facing is due to two things which is common:
1. Mismanagement
2. Greedy
Do you think youth would be the solution?

Holding to the fact that all the wars and atrocities are being committed by the youth.

Holding to the fact that all the wars and atrocities are being committed by the youth.

Many of the atrocities that are committed by African youth is a symptom of the lack of constructive things to do for African youth.

When young people have too much time on their hands with no purpose or goals the youth end up being a menace in our society.
We don't have enough programmes targeting youth development run by African governments  to ensure that our youth is part of the solutions.   Its not even a priority.

All I know is that things need to change, as a matter of urgency.   All africans need to become so sick and tired of the status quo that we demand a revolution change in our ,Leadership, Economy, culture, education.

I think this should be look at in the angle of being internal challenge than external, because input determines out put. Isn't the problem of Government in most cases but youth themselves. If you look at most of Africans states independency their being gotten by the youth of those days not aged men.
I belief youth needs direction on their own not wait for anybody as our fathers didn't wait for their elders, but got independents we all enjoy today.
Kayte, don't you think we should look inward?

When youths start asking themselves questions, like where are we heading, what does future hold for my children, how can I increase standard of living in my state etc these will be a good turning point.  Because future belong to those who plan for it.

I think if we need change in Africa, we should change the children. Bring them in a way that promotes the values we want to see in them when they grow up. The current crop of leaders may never change because they think amassing everything for yourself and family is the way to go.

Sad that they may not change in their old age as you suggested, good news is that we can start discipline ourselves and children as you suggested today is time.

Also is pertinent we look inward know where we are not getting things right and try to improve.
Because we have what other continent have to make change by starting discipline individual self.

When youths change their way of reasoning that will be a good starting point-I belief.

Proper education from various institutions and government about ethics and value will do fine.

Let hope the youths are reading and listening and repositioning themselves? To me I'm doing something to better Africa, you can see my comments on this great forum.
