– President Muhammadu Buhari and close associates of Bola Ahmed Tinubu have met to discuss internal wrangling within the APC

– Some of Tinubu's very close associates who met with the president include Bisi Akande; Rauf Aregbesola and Senator Sola Adeyeye

– Tinubu's aides confirm that the meeting took place but did not give any indication of what happened

President Muhammadu Buhari met with close associates of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu shortly after his arrival from a three-day visit to Germany.

President Muhammadu Buhari has met with close associates of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a bid to contain the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Vanguard reports that Buhari, who returned to the country from a three-day official visit to Germany, over the weekend, immediately went into a meeting with close associates of the APC national leader in the presidential villa, Abuja on Sunday, October 16.

Some of Tinubu's very close associates who met with the president include former interim national chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande; Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola and Senator Sola Adeyeye from Osun central.

Sources said the meeting discussed the internal wrangling within the ruling APC, particularly in Ondo state, other pockets of crises in the party and the may have touched on the alleged strained relationship between Buhari and Tinubu.

None of those at the meeting could be reached for comments, last night.

Though the presidential aides have claimed to be ignorant of the meeting, Tinubu's aides however confirmed that the meeting took place but did not give any indication of what happened.

A member of the Board of Trustees, (BoT )of the APC, Mr Olisaemeka Akamukalem, however, welcomed the intervention to reconcile the president and Bola Tinubu

"I think it is a welcome development that Mr President should wade or is wading into it, but let me reiterate what other people have been saying, that instead of this piecemeal resolution of conflicts, we should have a functional BoT because they would have nipped in the bud this issue which is essentially between some stalwarts and the National Working Committee, NWC," Akamukalem said.

"The crisis is not healthy for the party. The national chairman is our national chairman. Asiwaju (Tinubu) is a respected party leader and I can tell you that without his political sagacity, there would not have been this change, but having been a party leader for over 30 years, I think we should not rubbish the party like this. There should be a way of resolving such issues and this is why the BOT has to be reconstituted and made functional," he added.

Recall that Bola Tinubu called for the removal of the party's national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun for allegedly overruling the party's national working committee's decision on the party's governorship primaries and submitted the name of Chief Rotimi Akeredolu as the party's candidate in the election.

Meanwhile, Lawmakers in Lagos state house of assembly have attacked President Muhammadu Buhari for being disrespectful to All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The lawmakers expressed deep disappointment in President Buhari's handling of matters concerning Tinubu and described his actions as "a sign of disrespect" for the former Lagos state governor.

They noted that Tinubu cannot be shoved aside because of his contributions to the emergence of APC as a ruling party at the centre.
