APGA: A MISSION TO DISPOSSESS IMO PEOPLE

By Collins Opurozor

"If you want to dispossess a people, the simplest way to do it is to tell their story, and begin with 'secondly'" - Mourid al-Barghouti.

The above words of the fugitive Palestinian poet, al-Barghouti, have captured the innermost intentions of the new hack writers, particularly one Anselem Nebeife, recruited by the factional National Chairman of the disputed All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Mr. Ikechukwu Victor Oye, to justify the cruelty to which Imo people were subjected in the name of primary elections.

When you only tell the story of the APGA aggrieved aspirants in Imo State who have taken their party to court without telling the story of rape, fraud, deceit and unconscionable circumvention of due process and mindless violation of the party's constitution by the leadership, you will have an entirely different story. You have dispossessed the people.

It is worrisome that instead of immediately resigning  from office for the shame he has brought both to his Anambra people and the entire Igbo Nation, the drowning man, Victor Oye, still preoccupies himself with hiring image launderers. It is said that Anselem Nebeife, through whom Oye now further insults Imo people, is also the National Youth Leader of APGA.

But by the Constitution of APGA, the National Youth Leader is responsible for initiating and implementing measures, schemes and programs with the objective of endearing the party to the Nigerian youths. Which agenda, program or initiative has Anselem Nebeife carried out? There is no single thing to the credit of this fellow! Having woefully failed to understand what his duties are, and being miserably hungry with  a moral compass which points only to the direction of money, Anselem Nebeife has lent himself for use by anyone who is willing to grease his itching palm.

Leafing through his history, you are presented with a brutish savage in content, a man who at the mention of money even human blood is less valuable than water. In short, you are presented with, in the words of Rudyard Kipling, 'half devil, half child'.

APGA in Imo state has been stripped of every glory, dignity and candour. It has been bequeathed with a legacy of rot and shame. The situation is not any different from  what the fine Indian writer, Kiran Desai, described as "the inheritance of loss" in the aftermath of the assault on the Indian culture by imperialism and colonialism.

There is no amount of lies that will change the fact that what happened in Imo state was pure robbery and mindless fraud which must never be allowed to stand.
