ATIKU AND HIS ONE TERM PROMISE; A HOLISTIC OVERVIEW

By Ndubuisi Emedosi.

At first, when I read about the "One term sermon" from the Jada-born politician, H.E Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, what slipped through my mouth was, " Waziri just miscalculated!" Reason is that, I have watched and listened to many office seekers promise to change 'River Niger' to 'Nicotine Niger', yet failed to honour their promises.

Then, when I started asking questions, making wide consultations in respect to the one-term sermon by Waziri Adamawa, I became convinced, based on my findings that the ex-Custom officer is poised to follow his one-term mission to the letter.

Moreover, his firm stand  in spite of the heavy persecution meted out to him by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo, against his third-term bid, which would have favoured him as the vice president, but fought for our threatened democracy. This alone made me to believe that the former vice president will keep to his one-term promise

According to Atiku Abubakar when asked if he would commit to  honour his pronouncement, he quickly answered by saying:

"Of course, I would! I have said this before on my own initiative. I believe in it. If I am elected as the President in 2019, I give an undertaking that I would only do one term.

"Having said that, let me remind Nigerians that Buhari also gave such an undertaking in 2011, but he is not living up to it today. My own case will be different. I am prepared to sign an undertaking to do only one term. I do not make promises I cannot keep. I am assuring Nigerians that I will keep this promise. I am making it out here in the open. I am willing to sign a written document. If you or any other Nigerian can come up with an iron-clad legal document that binds me, I am willing to publicly commit to it".

It might Interest you to know that his promise of a single term is borne out of EQUITY and FAIRNESS.

More over, the presidential hopeful has shown a strong drive to hit the ground running immediately he wins without thinking or politicking to secure a reelection. He definitely will be resolute and focused on delivering his campaign promises, and dividends of democracy. His single term will be channelled in rejuvenating our battered economy, building a bridge of unity among divides, restructuring the political system ... create jobs, attract foreign investors, and boost our SMEs for a stable economy.

No doubt, Atiku's single term if elected will be focused on putting Nigeria back on track without fear of satisfying any cabal against the overall interest of the masses, rather he will be answerable to Nigerians.

Since Buhari and Atiku have nothing to lose should any become the president, and having seen the worse of PMB administration, with no single good feat to consider the incumbent, it will be a new beginning if we kiss Buhari a disappointing goodbye, and give Atiku a warm and a resounding welcome with our bazooka (PVC) come 2019.

              Yes, we can!

I think Nigerians should think deep and make the wisest decision. The creator of universe will direct Nigerians to a right candidate for the country.
