Buhari mourns Thailand’s monarch

President Muhammadu on Friday extended his condolences to the royal family, the government and people of Thailand on the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President extolled what he described as Adulyadej's extraordinary and committed leadership to his people over a period of seven decades; and his exceptional stewardship which saw Thailand emerge as one of South East Asia's leading economies.The President expressed the belief that the highly monarch will be long remembered for his towering role and dedication to improving the lives and aspirations of the Thai people.

He acknowledged that under the monarch's reign, Thailand witnessed remarkable transformation in every sphere of life, including making agriculture the bedrock of economic development.

The statement read, "President Buhari expresses the hope that Thailand and indeed all who mourn King Adulyadej will continue to honour his legacy of selfless service and commitment to human dignity.

"He prays God Almighty to grant his soul eternal rest and comfort his family, well-wishers and the Thai people in this period of loss and national mourning."
