Recent action by Parliament restricting eligibility to Parliament to people with University education was most vain. This question has racked the minds of past generations with their respective great thinkers offering diverse guidelines on what society should consider in determining who should manage their public affairs.

Our Parliament attempted to fix the problem by declaring that it is only those with University degrees—and earned and not honorary ones—that have the answers to the challenge of managing the public affairs of Kenya!

Although at some point out formal education system is the best instrument to prepare successive guardians or leaders of the society, I am not that sanguine about the ability of formal educational system to bake successive leaders for our political institutions. Modern education is too preoccupied with preparing people for jobs, for professional and vocational careers.

People who make our lives better, and running great activities of life are not educationist. Steve job of Apple, Bill gate of Microsoft, Alico Dangote of dangote group(Richest man in Africa), Founder ford motors and so on. What we need is people have something to offer not titles or certificates.
