GOVERNOR UMAHI COMMENDS EBONYI STATE JUDICIARY FOR SYNERGY WITH HIS GOVERNMENT

~Says full autonomy of Judiciary and Legislature, already in place in Ebonyi

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engineer David Nweze Umahi has explained that the Judicial arm of Government in the State is already enjoying full autonomy as against calls for Judicial autonomy in parts of the Country.

Governor Umahi was speaking when he paid a visit to the new Chief Judge, Justice Elvis Ngene at his Abakaliki residence on Tuesday.

He commended the Chief Judge for being a willing tool in the Ebonyi project, expressed hope that the Leadership of the CJ would take the State to a new chapter of governance.

While explaining that under his watch, the Legislative and Judicial arms of Government get their dues from source, Governor Umahi called on other States to borrow a leaf from Ebonyi State to guarantee Legislative and Judicial autonomy.

"Every kobo that is due to the Legislature and the Judiciary has always been remitted to them at source and so the question of autonomy in Ebonyi State is not in any contest.

"What we can be talking about is that the Executive needs more money, the Legislature needs more money and the Judiciary needs more money, so it is increase in revenue that we should be talking about."

Earlier, the new Chief Judge, Justice Elvis Ngene thanked Governor Umahi for all the assistance to his office and the Judiciary in the State and promised to give his best to ensure proper adjudication of justice in the State.

Justice Ngene received from the State Government a 2021 Land Cruiser Jeep, Toyota Hilux Van and a 36 seater capacity bus as operational vehicles.

"I want to thank you immensely for availing me the fund to procure this, I pray that the God who has made this come to pass should continue to reinvigorate you and make you do more."
