Vice president Yemi Osinbajo has commended the military for defeating Boko Haram terrorists.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says the failure of the Jonathan administration to provide equipment and supplies to the military contributed to the spread of Boko Haram insurgency in the north-east.
Osinbajo, speaking on Thursday, October 6, at the graduation of Cadets of 63rd Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna, said the failure of the former administration to contain the terrorists resulted to the death of over 20, 000 people.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the vice president noted that the fault of the former administration also made over two million Nigerians displaced and more than 75, 000 children orphaned by the insurgents.

He expressed regret that several billions of dollars meant for procurement of arms and ammunition to prosecute the war were cornered by few persons.

"This has left the region with one of the worst humanitarian crisis," he added.

Osinbajo commended the military for defeating the terrorists and for the sacrifices it made to defend the nation.

On the current recession, he said that the fastest way for Nigeria to recover was for militant groups in the Niger Delta to stop bombing oil pipelines.
He complained that the activities of the militants had adversely affected crude oil output which had dropped from 2.2 million barrels per day to below 1 million barrels per day.

Meanwhile, three female suicide bombers of the Boko Haram terrorists were killed in Gwoza, Borno state on Thursday, October 6, before they could carry out their mission.

This was disclosed in a statement by Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, the acting director Army Public Relations.

According to the statement, the women attempted to force their way into troops location but were exposed by vigilantes who suspected their dressing and the nature of the hijab they were wearing which contained IEDS.
