The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has supposed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is plotting to rig Edo governorship election on September 28, Wednesday.

The party noted this in a statement unveiled by the PDP's spokesman Prince Dayo Adeyeye in Abuja.
Mr. Adeyeye listed four ways which the ruling party is planning to rig the Edo polls despite president.

These schemes include:

1. The distribution of fake results sheets to polling units in different areas of the state;

2. The use of local government collation officers to write fictitious results on real results sheets of some local government areas;

3. The use of thugs brought into the state from other states to harass and intimidate the citizens of Edo state;

4. The use of security agencies to arrest, harass and intimidate members and supporters of the PDP; and to provide security cover for members of the APC to execute their nefarious plots.

The statement reads in part:

"As final preparations are put in place for the Edo state gubernatorial election which is slated to take place tomorrow September 28, 2016, it has become necessary to address a number of salient issues.

"We are aware that President Muhammadu Buhari has warned the INEC chairman in private to ensure a free, fair and credible process in Edo state. We are also aware that the president has also warned the relevant security agencies to ensure a preservation of the peace in the state during the election.

"It is important to sound this note of warning again to INEC and APC that the Edo people are united in their determination to vehemently resist any attempt to manipulate the electoral process. We urge INEC to ensure that its staff abides by the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 (as Amended) as well as its Electoral Manual & Guidelines.

"We urge the relevant stakeholders to allow the Edo people to freely elect the Leader they desire for the next four (4) years and to allow the will of the people to prevail."

The main electoral body has agreed to postpone the Edo state governorship election by two weeks due to security reasons.

The election which was scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 10, was postponed following a security meeting held in Benin, the Edo state capital in the evening on September 8.
