The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has stormed the Sambisa forest, the notorious stronghold of the deadly Boko Haram sect.

The video of the operation unveiled by the NAF showed at least two F-7Ni jets and one Alpha jet in a series of maneuvers and target bombings in Goni Kurmi.

The NAF spokesperson, Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa, said in a statement issued on October 10 that the fighter jets have bombarded several bases of the terrorists.

Famuyiwa further added that the targets of the bombardement were not chosen arbitrarily but were carefully selected after a determination has been reached from reports of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR).

"Yes, there was impact assessment carried out. Remember targets were not just bombed arbitrarily but carefully selected. Before and after the strike there were ISR missions carried out. Post-strike ISR missions, otherwise called Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) were also conducted at the end of the 1-week operation to be sure the objectives of the operations were achieved. In this case, this has to do with degree of success achieved with respect to the destruction of the selected targets which include new Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) camps and logistics bases," he said.

"There are no information as to whether specific BHT leader was hit or not. Of course, it should be expected that there would have been some key individuals among those killed but no information about who they are."

The Nigerian military recently commenced another round of air interdiction missions codenamed 'Operation Forest Strom' in the north-eastern part of the country.

This new phase of offensive air operations is intended at further degrading the capabilities of the Boko Haram insurgents in the Sambisa area.

The Nigerian army said that despite its inability to free the Chibok girls, abducted two years ago from their school in Borno state, troops have recorded great success in the war against insurgency.
