The Federal Government has summoned the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Lulu Mnguni, to protest against the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other foreigners. The government also demanded compensation from South African authorities for the victims of the attacks on migrant and migrant workers. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Musiliu Obanikoro called on the South African government to "take concrete steps to quell the unrest and bring the culprits involved to book, to serve as a deterrent to others and prevent recurrence."

Mnguni informed Obanikoro that the South African government was doing everything possible to address the attacks and prosecute those behind it. He expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the manner in which the crisis was handled.
