If President Umaru
Yar'Adua's kitchen cabinet
members decide to bring him
back to Nigeria because of
political expediency, they
might just be wasting their
time, a medical practitioner
has warned.
In the words of Dr Eronmwon
Noruwa (Okonjo), "given the
President's current health
condition, he will be in a
state where he cannot talk,
eat and interact, least of all
govern Nigeria."
In an exclusive interview
with Sunday Sun, the United
States-based cardiac
transplant and intensive
care unit specialist said
Yar'Adua is now probably a
shadow of himself and that if
by a miracle he is able to
make any decision, such
decision cannot be trusted
because it would be from a
drug-induced mind.
She analyzed the
President's condition, saying
he is medically incapacitated;
a diagnosis that sharply
contradicts the position of
the Executive Council of the
Federation, which had given
Yar'Adua a clean bill of
health.
"He is most likely under
chemically induced coma. Let
us analyze his condition
going through the entire
body systems one after the
other.
"Neuro status - Under
chemically induced coma, he
is sedated. As a result he is
not capable of making any
decision. With heavy
sedation, he will not be alert,
oriented to time, place or
person. Even if the sedation
is stopped, it will take some
time for him to speak. His
decisions should be
questioned because he will
be making them under the
influence of mind-altering
drugs such as Fentanyl,
Ativan or Propofol," she
said.
According to her, people
suffering such ailment are
possibly intubated and
mechanically ventilated.
"The president is most likely
intubated and mechanically
ventilated. If he is a 100 per
cent vented, meaning the
vent is doing everything his
lungs is supposed to do for
him, he will have to come
(back to Nigeria) with a
ventilator, bought or rented.
He will need oxygen at all
times. He will need distilled
water for the humidifier that
goes with this vent. He will
need a respiratory therapist
on site at all times.
"Since it has been more than
a month, he might have been
trached. A trachestomy is a
small incision in the neck for
mechanical ventilation. This
procedure is done on
patients that are vent-
dependent after 30 days to
minimize infections from the
endotracheal tube. "But in
the event the president
returns to Nigeria, he would
need more than his political
aides around him because
his health would be unstable.
"From his diagnosis of acute
pericarditis, related to
increased uremic acid from
kidney failure, the president
is not haemodynamically
stable. His heart is
compromised and has to be
monitored closely. He will
have haemodynamic
monitoring using the swan-
ganz catheter.
"He will need every day or
every other day an
echocardiogram to monitor
visible changes. He must
have a cardiologist and a
trained ICU doctor at all
times. His cardiologist must
be close enough to get to
the President quickly. He
might be coming with both a
cardiologist and an ICU
doctor in attendance.
"He also will have a triple
Lumen Catheter in him for I.V.
fluids and other I.V. meds. He
will have to come with two
ICU nurses in attendance at
all times (Shift Change). Lab
work every day to monitor
blood (hematocrit and
Hemoglobin), electrolytes,
Cardiac Markers, and
effectiveness of drugs
administered."

Well, judging by this Nigeria really need a new President, to govern Nigeria that can gov4rn it's affairs effectively.

He should obey the section 145 of 1999 constitution...
