Bayern Munich and Borussia
Dortmund both rested a host of
first-team players ahead of next
week's Champions League semi-
final second legs, but still claimed
Bundesliga victories.

Bayern controlled proceedings in
a low-key 1-0 win over Freiburg
at the Allianz Arena. Xherdan Shaqiri scored the only
goal in the 15th minute as Bayern
collected their 14th straight
victory. Freiburg suffered their
second straight defeat to remain
on 45 points, albeit still well in the mix for the European berths
inside the top six. Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes had
made sweeping changes to his
line-up, with Jerome Boateng the
only starter remaining from the
4-0 demolition of Barcelona in the
Champions League. Dortmund left, among others,
midweek's four-goal hero Robert
Lewandowski on the bench until
the 69th minute ahead of their
trip to Real Madrid, but still won
2-1 at Fortuna Dusseldorf. Nuri Sahin opened the scoring
after 20 minutes and Jakub
Blaszczykowski made it two in the
70th minute, one minute after
coming on. Adam Bodzek got a consolation
for the hosts two minutes from
time. Stefan Kiessling's first-half
penalty saw Bayer Leverkusen
edge past strugglers Werder
Bremen 1-0 and take another
huge step towards securing a
spot in next season's Champions League. Leverkusen are now unbeaten in
five Bundesliga matches to sit ten
points clear of Schalke, and they
will be assured of a top-three
finish if the Gelsenkirchen club fail
to take a point against Hamburg on Sunday. Bremen, however, are without a
victory in ten and remain
perilously close to the relegation
zone with just three matches to
escape. Diego scored one goal and set up
another two as Wolfsburg beat
Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 to
finally collect a home victory. Maximilian Arnold opened the
scoring for Wolfsburg in the 34th
minute but Peniel Mlapa equalised
after 52 minutes. Ivica Olic put
Wolfsburg back in the lead in the
61st minute and Diego finished the match with his strike in the
75th minute. Hoffenheim remain alive in their
fight against relegation after a
crucial 2-1 home victory against
Nurnberg. Tobias Weis gave Hoffenheim the
lead after 11 minutes and Sejad
Salihovic doubled the advantage
eight minutes later. Timmy Simons
pulled a goal back for Nuremberg
in the 58th minute from the spot. Hoffenheim had collected just one
victory in their last five matches
but improved to 27 points -
three points from the relegation
play-off. Augsburg scored three times in
the final half-hour to continue
their push to stave off relegation
with a 3-0 home victory over
Stuttgart. Sascha Molders made it 1-0 for
Augsburg in the 61st minute while
Marcel de Jong doubled the
advantage in the 83rd minute
and Ji Dong-won pushed the lead
to 3-0 after 86 minutes. Augsburg had lost three of their
last four games but jumped to 30
points with the win - although
they remain in the relegation
play-off spot.
