Nigeria's Super Eagles are set to
confront their biggest rivals in
African football, the Black Stars of
Ghana on Tuesday in an
international friendly at the Vicarage
Road Stadium in London.
The Nigerians are going into this
game on the back of the
disappointment of failing to qualify
for next year's Africa Cup of Nations
following a 2 -2 draw against Guinea
on Saturday in Abuja.
On the other hand, the Ghanaians
defeated Sudan 2 – 0 to qualify for
the 2012 Afcon, and are tipped to go
ahead and inflict another blow on
their Nigerian counterparts.
The Super Eagles have suffered
three back-to-back defeats in the
hands of their eternal rivals including
a 1 – 4 loss on February 6, 2007 in
an international friendly in London.
The last time Nigeria defeated Ghana
was on January 23, 2006 in an
Africa Cup of Nations game.
The bragging rights belong to the
Ghanaians ahead of Tuesday's clash
in London.
The first real competitive match
between Ghana and Nigeria took
place on August 28, 1960, according
to Fifa's official website.
On that occasion, Ghana ran over
Nigeria by 4 – 1 in a Fifa World Cup
qualifier at the Accra Sports
Stadium, Accra.
The clash in 1960 was "the first-ever
preliminary match south of the
Sahara" according to Fifa.
In the 4 – 1 win of 1960, Edward
Acquah, Edward Boateng, Aggrey
Fynn and Mohamadu Salisu got
Ghana's goals while Dejo Fayemi
was Nigeria's goal scorer.
But soccer pundits say that the clash
between the two biggest West
African football team dates back
beyond 1960.
Records available show that the
Ghana and Nigeria may have first
clashed on May 28, 1950 in a
friendly game in which the Red
Devils of Nigeria, as they were
known triumphed by a lone goal
over Ghana.
However, five years later the
Nigerians suffered their biggest loss
to date to their rivals when they lost
0 – 7 on October 30, 1955 in the
Jalco Cup.
And Nigeria's biggest win over
Ghana happened in the Kwame
Nkrumah Cup on February 23, 1963
when they won 5 – 0.
No doubt, it is likely that Samson
Siasia could make changes to the
side that started against Guinea on
Saturday.

IT ENDED GOALS
Nigeria's Super Eagles and their
Ghanaian counterparts, the Black
Stars, played out a goalless draw in
Tuesday's international friendly at
the Vicarage Road, Watford in
London.
Super Eagles' head coach, Samson
Siasia opted to start Ikechukwu
Uche, Brown Ideye, Joel Obi, Austin
Ejide, Dele Adeleye and Ahmed
Musa, who were all on the bench
for last Saturday's 2012 Afcon
qualifying against Guinea.
On the other hand, Ghana head
coach, Goran Stevanovic left out
Asamoah Gyan, Dominic Adiyiah,
Samuel Inkoom, Emmanuel
Agyemang Badu and Sulley Muntari
from his starting line-up.
But it was the Black Stars that got
the game off to a lively start, as their
opponents still looked jaded from
failing to qualify for the 2012 Africa
Cup of Nations following a 2 – 2
draw against Guinea in Abuja at the
weekend.
Prince Tagoe's header on the 11 th
minute was the first real chance
created in the game but his effort
was too feeble to trouble Ejide in
Nigeria's goal.
And for longer periods in the
opening minutes, the Nigerians
were made to chase the ball though
Ghana created little from their
superior ball possession.
On 27 minutes, Ike Uche's cross
created a nervy moment in Ghana's
area, as goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey
misses out on picking the ball before
it bounced off the face of goal.
Suddenly Nigeria took charge and
within two minutes, Ideye's shot
from 30 yards hit the cross bar after
connecting Ike Uche's knock down.
It became the Super Eagles all way,
as Ike Uche turned inside of Isaac
Vorsah to shoot low but Kwarasey
got down well to fist the ball away
before John Mensah cleared his line.
And on 32 minutes, Mensah blocked
another Ike Uche's effort on goal
after Nsofor played him through.
The restart began with Stevanovic
sending on Gyan, Muntari and Badu.
But the second half was largely
uneventful, as both sides battled for
control in the middle of the park.
Ghana late on in the game pressed
for a goal with substitute Dominic
Adiyiah dribbling past Efe Ambrose
but his attempt at goal was
wayward.
And around the 78th minute Ghana
had a penalty shout after Badu felt
he had been pulled down by
Adeleye whom he actually collided
with inside the Nigeria goal area.
English referee, Mark Clattenburg
turned away and signalled for the
game to continue.
Ghana came close to scoring 12
minutes to time when Gyan flicked
Muntari's free kick to cause panic
inside Nigeria's goal area and Lee
Addy's shot was properly cleared.
It is the first time both sides will play
out a goalless draw since March 11,
2001 when they clashed in a Fifa
World Cup qualifying game in
Accra, Ghana.

Prince thank you for the understanding, you know a thing like this is needed not only in football but in career, as God has a way of moving us to a greater height.
