New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Its over. Carmelo Anthony had 24 points and nine rebounds as the New York Knicks snapped their franchise-record 16-game losing streak following a 99-92 victory over the Anthony Davis-less New Orleans Pelicans on Monday night. The Pelicans trimmed a 15-point first half deficit to a point with under two minutes left when Tyreke Evans connected on a runner in the paint. Omer Asik was called for a foul with less than a second on the shot clock a bit later and with the time winding down again, Anthony found a wide open Jose Calderon in the right corner. Calderon, who had been 1-of-9 at that point, nailed the 3-pointer to stake the Knicks to a 96-92 advantage with 32.7 seconds left. Ryan Anderson was off on a right corner triple at the other end and Anthony sealed the outcome by making 3-of-4 from the foul line down the stretch. Langston Galloway netted 21 points and Amare Stoudemire added 14 points and six rebounds off the bench for the Knicks, who hadnt won since Dec. 12 against the Boston Celtics. They turned the ball over just four times. New Orleans was not only without Davis for a third straight game due to a left toe sprain, Jrue Holiday also missed his third consecutive contest due to right ankle imflammation. Evans finished with 23 points and nine rebounds, while Asik added 11 points and 17 boards for New Orleans, which has dropped five of its last eight games. New Orleans early 5-4 edge was its last lead of the game, but the Knicks went on a 16-4 run to pull ahead. Anthony posted 10 points during the surge and a Lance Thomas hook shot gave the Knicks a 20-9 margin. They were up 22-16 following a quarter of play and increased the spread to 53-38 after Galloway knocked down a pair of treys in the waning moments of the first half. Bowman is expected to miss at least half the season as he recovers from a devastating left knee injury sustained in the NFC championship game loss to the rival Seahawks. Borland also had a team-high six tackles. "I think I had one of my better games, but I still made some mistakes I need to fix," Borland said. "Thats kind of been the story this preseason, so I have some things to improve on, but it could help." Colin Kaepernick did not play for the 49ers. Blaine Gabbert played the first half and went 4 for 11 for 60 yards before Johnson took over. Coach Jim Harbaugh had said earlier in the week that he planned to play Kaepernick. "I feel bad for that, for them, but some of our other guys got a chance to play the best game of their career. Thats really exciting for me." Houston quarterbacks Case Keenum and Tom Savage both threw interceptions as they compete for the backup job behind Ryan Fitzpatrick. Keenum went 8 for 17 for 70 yards and Savage went 8 for 12 for 43 yards. Keenum got the start and misfired on five of his first seven passes. He got the Texans moving on his third series, completing three passes to DeVier Posey. Rookie Chris Boswell finished the drive with a 41-yard field goal. He threw behind Posey and Chris Cook intercepted and returned it to the Houston 13. Johnson threw a touchdown pass to Bruce Ellington on the next play. Phil Dawson kicked a 28-yard field goal in the third quarter. Borland then picked off Savages next throw, stepping in front of tight end Ryan Griffin and racing to the end zone. "Its just anticipation," Savage said. "Ive just got to get the ball out quicker. I think it was the right read. It was just the ball has got to be out and thats something I can definitely improve on." Texans rookie Andre Hal intercepted Johnsons pass and returned it 77 yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter. Johnson threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Nelson and Kassim Osgood blocked a punt out of the end zone for a safety in the fourth quarter.
