LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The way goalie Martin Jones began his NHL career with the Los Angeles Kings, the last thing anyone on either bench expected was for him to give up goals on the first two shots the Dallas Stars took. But Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn scored 1 minute, 20 seconds apart — before the Staples Center seats were even filled — and rookie linemate Valeri Nichushkin got the go-ahead goal on a power play in the second period to propel the Stars to a 5-2 victory over the Kings on Monday night. "Those guys have played extremely well, and we came in here as weak underdogs. But we got off to a great start," goaltender Kari Lehtonen said. "We talked about how well (Jones) has played. But I tried to turn it around the other way, like: He has to lose one day — and hopefully it would be tonight. But hes a real good goalie and fun to watch." Cody Eakin scored an insurance goal with 4:48 remaining against Jones, who stopped 19 shots in his first NHL loss. Shawn Horcoff was awarded an empty-net goal after he was tripped from behind by Drew Doughty in the Kings zone. Lehtonen made 30 saves to record his league-leading 12th road victory, sending the Kings to their second loss in 11 games and just their third in regulation over the last 23. "Were trying to gain points in our conference, and the only way were going to do it is by beating good teams," coach Lindy Ruff said. "Our young defencemen responded well to the challenge." Dallas top line of Benn, Seguin and Nichushkin has accounted for 15 goals and 29 points in its last nine games. This was the second time this season that each of them scored in the same game. It also occurred on Dec. 14 in a 6-4 victory at Winnipeg. "They had a little bit of a rough time in San Jose, and probably were out worst line in the game up there. But they responded by coming back tonight and being the reason we won — which was good to see," Ruff said. "Tylers got elite speed, Jamies got elite puck-handling skills and a shot, and so does Tyler. And the 18-year-old (Nichushkin) is young to be something special," he added. "They bring a lot of good things like size and speed, and thats tough to handle." Justin Williams and Jarret Stoll scored first-period goals for Los Angeles. The Kings played without captain Dustin Brown, who missed his first game of the season due to an illness. Jones, who tied Bob Froeses 31-year-old NHL record on Saturday by winning for the eighth time in his first eight NHL games, was going after Ray Emerys mark of nine straight winning decisions from the start of a career. But the game began inauspiciously for the Kings 23-year-old goalie, as Seguin beat him high to the stick side from the low slot for the tying goal after getting a cross-ice pass from Benn. Less than 2 1-2 minutes later, Benn put Dallas ahead when he carried the puck into the Kings zone and beat Jones to the short side with a backhander over his left shoulder from deep in the right circle. Seguins 19th goal and Benns 11th ended a streak of 11 straight home games in which the Kings had shut out their opponents in the first period. "I just thought about stopping the next one, which is all you can do because whats done is done," said Jones, who had allowed only eight goals on 234 shots in his other eight games. "Theyve got some good offensive guys and they did a good job, but I didnt think we got big saves when we needed it. When you spot a team like that two goals early, its pretty tough to win." Los Angeles held Dallas to just two more shots on net before Stoll tied it at 16:48 of the period with his fifth goal. Referee Mike Leggo had his arm raised to call a delayed penalty for hooking against Alex Goligoski, when Williams pass caromed off the skate of Dallas Antoine Roussel and Stoll whipped a 30-foot slap shot between Lehtonens pads. But Nichushkin put Dallas ahead to stay at 5:07 of the second with his seventh goal, beating Jones to the glove side with a one-timer from the right circle after getting a cross-ice feed from Seguin. It came while Stoll was serving an interference penalty. The Stars were just 5 for 50 on the power play in their previous 14 games. Dallas defenceman Sergei Gonchar was scratched for the first time this season because of concussion-like symptoms, after getting injured in Saturdays 3-2 shootout loss at San Jose. NOTES: Jones, who has been filling in for the injured Jonathan Quick, came within one victory of tying Quicks franchise record for consecutive wins. ... Despite the loss, the Kings are 9-2-0 this month. Their previous high for wins in December was eight, accomplished seven times. ... According to the Washington Post, the Washington Capitals placed Green on the long-term injured list on Thursday meaning he wont be back in the lineup before February 1st.ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Peyton Manning is the only player in this Super Bowl who has won the big game. Hes also lost one. So, he knows both the elation of putting his fingerprints on the Lombardi Trophy and the anguish of watching it slip through his grasp, and he admonished his Denver Broncos teammates not to cut corners as they prepare to face the Seattle Seahawks on Feb. 2. "I think the biggest thing hes said is eliminate distractions, making sure youre taking care of the little details, doing extra, watching film, working out, getting your body right," receiver Eric Decker said. "And then I think the biggest thing is he says hes won one, hes lost one. And its a complete high; its a complete low. So, really understand to give everything youve got because this is the last game of the year." Tight end Jacob Tamme was also Mannings teammate in Indianapolis when the Colts lost to the Saints in the Super Bowl in 2010. "Its an empty feeling," Tamme said. "I mean, youre certainly proud of what you did to get that far. But its an empty feeling to get to this game and not win it. So, were going to prepare hard and do everything we can to let it loose on Sunday and just play our best ball. Thats all we can do, just play our best ball. We know weve got a stiff challenge." Wes Welker caught 11 passes for 103 yards for New England in the Super Bowl following the 2007 season, but the Patriots shot at perfection ended when Mannings brother, Eli, threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress with 35 seconds left to give the Giants a 17-14 win. Welker said Friday thats the lowest point of his career and the driving force in his life. "I think its the reason I get up in the morning in the off-season and even now," he said. "Were close again and Im just trying to make the most of it." Broncos cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie nearly won a ring with the 2008 Arizona Cardinals, when he had five solo tackles and broke up two passes against Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl only to watch Ben Roethlisbeergers 6-yard touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes with 35 seconds left give Pittsburgh a 27-23 victory.dddddddddddd DRC said hes "excited, anxious, nervous, ready to get there" for his second chance at the ultimate prize. None of the Seattle Seahawks have ever played in a Super Bowl, the first team with zero previous Super Bowl experience since the Bills lost to the Giants in 1991. Besides the four Broncos who have played in the Super Bowl, three of their coaches have won rings: defensive co-ordinator Jack Del Rio (linebackers coach for Baltimore in 2000), offensive consultant Alex Gibbs (O-line coach in Denver 1997-98) and secondary coach Cory Undlin (defensive assistant with Patriots in 2004). Of course, Executive Vice-President John Elway has two rings from the back-to-back titles he won in the late 1990s following three trips to the Super Bowl that ended in losses. "Weve got some guys who know the drill and are trying to pass down whatever little bits of wisdom theyve been able to and hopefully well take advantage of that," Tamme said. "Its all about this one. Its about the preparation for this game and how we go out and play come next Sunday. Thats the bottom line." Notes: RB Knowshon Moreno said he was relieved X-rays after the AFC title game showed only bruised ribs and no fractures. "I knew it wasnt anything crazy," he said. "Feels good, its getting better so Ill be ready to go. You can play through anything, especially in a game like this." Moreno was limited Friday for the second straight day of practice. ... Welker said he was "never really worried" about getting fined for his hit that knocked Patriots CB Aqib Talib out of the AFC Championship even though Bill Belichick complained about it. Welker declined to respond to Belichicks comments that Welkers hit, which didnt draw a flag, was one of the worst plays hed seen in 39 years of coaching. "I dont really have any reaction," Welker said. "Im just happy we won the game and happy about going to the Super Bowl." wholesale stitched Jerseys wholesale Jerseys wholesale nfl Jerseys cheap nfl Jerseys cheap nfl Jerseys china ' ' '
