Like a stressed-out student sitting all his A-Levels in a month, the examinations keep coming thick
and fast for David Moyes. After gaining no more than a D grade in the games with Chelsea and Liverpool, he boosted his score in Tuesday’s German test against Bayer Leverkusen.
But now another fiendishly tough assignment awaits in the 166th Manchester derby at the Etihad (Sunday, 4pm kick-off). It is far and away the most attractive fixture in the Premier League this weekend - and indeed of most weekends this season.
After the madness of last season’s match, in which Robin van Persie’s stoppage time free-kick led to a fracas involving fans, flares and Ferdinand, City will be out to set the record
straight, making Manuel Pellegrini’s job easier as he and several of his summer signings get their first immersion into what is probably now English football’s most toxic rivalry.
