Nigeria's Supersand Eagles could
only muster a fourth place finish
at the Samsung Intercontinental
Cup as they were edged 7-8 in
the losers' final after extra time
by hosts, UAE on Saturday.
UAE raced into the lead at the
Dubai Festival City in the second
minute through Ahmad before
Isiaka Olawale drew Nigeria level.
Ahmad scored again and Olawale
responded for the Supersand
Eagles and later gave Nigeria the
lead for the first time a minute
later to make it 3-2.
The lead of the Africans lasted
only a minute as Ahmad put UAE
on level terms.
Shehu Majama'a scored as the
Supersand Eagles went 4-3 up.
And Olawale, skipper of the
Nigerian team, scored his fourth
goal of the game to give his side
a 5-3 lead.
UAE stormed back with a goal
from Hassan Ali before Rami Al
Mesaabi turned home a goal into
his own net to hand Nigeria back
their two-goal lead.
But the duo of Ali Karim and Al
Mesaabi scored in the space of
three minutes to drew level at
6-6.
With the game in extra time, Al
Rahi scored to give UAE a 7-6
lead before Azeez Abu put the
game back on seven all.
Al Mesaabi made amends for his
own goal by scoring the winner
as the former Asian beach
soccer champions finished third.
