And thats just one of many different scenarios that could be played out, with strong cases that could be made for each one. The Columbus Blue Jackets (who play in the Eastern time zone) can make a case to change conferences. Why not have Winnipeg play in the same division with Canadas Western NHL teams? One tweeter feared Toronto would be picked last. Lets realize that nobody knows the names of the divisions, let alone which teams are in them. So the priority should be to make fewer divisions. Fewer divisions that are larger would make it easier to group teams geographically, and after all the arguments have been heard, a pretty good way to end them is to tell teams, "you belong where the map says you belong." Playoffs would need to be changed. Fine, its time for a change, and something that would allow any two teams to meet in the Stanley Cup final is essential in my mind. Youve heard that here before.The NHL has a great opportunity. It should seize it and not settle for something as simple as two teams trading places.Ah, but which two?
