PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT ANAMBRA STATE MINISTRY OF BASIC EDUCATION




His Excellency Chief Dr Willie Obiano and the members of the Executive Council have approved the gradual resumption of schools in the state. To this end, the Ministry of Basic Education hereby releases the approved timetable for the completion of 2019/2020 Academic session, as well as the schedule for the State Examinations.


The 3rd term is quite short and we expect schools to make maximum use of the time. We had continued to teach our children at home through various e-platformS including the Anambra State Teaching on Air. These various platformS shall be continued as we do a phased re-opening of schools and watch the health implication.


We enjoin parents to provide hand sanitizers and face masks for children.


Let’s work together for the safety of all.




2019/2020 ACADEMIC YEAR COMPLETION CALENDAR.

COMPLETION OF 2019/2020   PERIOD:


1      WASSCE: Monday 17th August – Saturday 12th September, 2020 (On-going)    4 weeks
2      NABTEB: Monday 21st September – Thursday 15th October, 202o    3 weeks
3      NECO SSCE: Monday 5th October – Saturday 14th November,2020
   6 weeks
4      Resumption for JSS 3 Students: Monday 7th September, 2020. (Boarders to return the weekend before the date)
   
5      BECE: Thursday 17th September, - Thursday 24th September, 2020.
   6 days
6      Primary School Leaving Certificate Exam: Saturday 12th September, 2020. (Pupils to go from their homes).
   1 day
7      Third term 2019/2020: Begins Monday 14th September, 2020 – Friday 23rd October, 2020. (Both Primary and Secondary)
Boarders to return the weekend before the date.
   30 days
8      PLANCEE: Saturday 10th October, 2020 - 1 day
9      World Literacy Day: 8th September, 2020
   
10      Independence Anniversary: 1st October,2020
   
11      World Teachers’ Day: 5th October, 2020
(Private Schools to ensure participation)
   
12      International Day of the Girl Child: 11th October, 2020
   






    Please note that:
* Teaching on Air still continues. There may be change in the timetable and you will be advised accordingly.


* Schools are advised to continue with their online teaching.


* Principals/ Head Teachers should also ensure that schools observe thirty minutes uninterrupted sustained silent reading on World Literacy Day as the Hon. Commissioner and team might pay a surprise visit to schools.


* All approved extra- curricular activities in schools are suspended.
